Designing for Behavior Change to Reduce Shoplifting
This project redesigned a self-checkout system to reduce shoplifting among students by applying behavioral change theories, including the Behaviour Change Wheel and the Theory of Planned Behaviour. The final concept used environmental restructuring — a circular layout with open visibility and lowered screens — to foster social accountability and discourage theft.
My Role
I contributed to the ethical analysis and helped plan and conduct the user test, gathering both observational and empirical data. This project deepened my understanding of how theory-driven design can promote positive behavioral change and reinforced my commitment to creating human-centered ecosystems that align with social and ethical goals.
